The Mayo Advertiser is offering three readers the chance to be part of the National Geographic Genographic Project at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life at Turlough House on Sunday afternoon, June 23.

On Sunday June 23 the people of Mayo will have an opportunity to explore their roots and to discover the diverse paths which successive waves of wanderers, migrants, invaders, and explorers have followed to reach their home here on the edge of the wild Atlantic.

Folk Fiction - Translations in Material Cultures is a multimedia exhibition by visual artist Gareth Kennedy which is currently running in the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co Mayo. The exhibition features film, photographs, and objects created over the past two years with the residents of Inís Oírr, on the Aran Islands, and Gneeveguilla, Co Kerry.

Six human skeletons have been discovered during an archaeological dig at a site near Terryland Castle. The variety of finds discovered has been called “very historic and important”.

Flora Lucida, a beautiful exhibition of glass sculptures by Mayo artist Emma Bourke, is currently on show at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar. Emma’s artistic practice is inspired by the natural environment in the west of Ireland, and the wild flowers and plants that populate the countryside. Captivated by these enchanting plants, she creates collections of these wild flowers out of glass, eternally capturing their beauty.

THE CERAMICISTS Sonja Landweer and Katherine West will host an exhibition of their work at the Norman Villa Gallery in Lower Salthill.

At the Museum of Country Life, Turlough, a performance of stories from Achill will take place on September 28 from 3pm to 4pm. Join storyteller Gearóidín Breathnach and students from Coláiste Pobail Acla for a performance of local stories from Achill Island including ‘Préachán Acla’ and ‘An Mhaighdean Mhara’.
